Many people would recall that inspirational children’s story about the little engine that could. It sought to teach many that you could do anything that you want to, once you set your mind to it.
This, in a sense, can be described in part as the catalyst for Omar Jordan’s foray into deejaying. Sorry, many of you would know him as the infamous DJ Chilly.
Fast forwarding to over a decade or two later, Jordan is now the Managing Director of “Chill Sound Entertainment”, an entertainment company offering a number of services ranging from equipment rentals, PA and Sound System, Laser Lighting and Commercial solutions. Not to be left out – his DJ services. What’s more, he added music production and recording titles to his many skills.
Back in 1999, he released his first single; teaming up with Adrian O’Neale and Shon Cummins to form the popular group “The Fraud Squad”. Two albums and several singles later, with the production of popular tracks such as “Tek Dat”, “Let Your Body Move”, “Bring Drinks”, “Pork Mout” and “Lunch Hour”, DJ Chilly is making a name for himself regionally, internationally and especially among those in the diaspora.
Going back to the story of the little engine that could, Chilly set his sights on something even bigger – Radio and in 2005, he pulled his first freelance shift on the government owned 98.1 the One (98.1 on the FM dial).
More recently, he took his ever-popular radio show “Soca Journey” which chronicles the music of the Crop Over season from yesteryear to current and has become a staple of the Crop Over experience to the number one radio station on the island, Slam 101.1 FM.
What next for Omar “DJ Chilly” Jordan, you might ask?
The sky’s the limit.Having his name linked with some of the most popular nightclubs on the island – both past and present, he has become known as one of Barbados’s most versatile DJ’s entertaining for weddings, major sporting events, company functions and national events hosted by the Barbados Tourism Authority and The National Cultural Foundation among other government entities, for profit and non-profit organizations.
